After almost five years together, the Czech fur and leather fashion brand KARA Trutnov, whose CEO and majority owner is the founder Zdeněk Rinth, is now in the hands of a strategic partner. The new owner of the Trutnov company, as well as a minority share of the Natland investment group, is the SPM investment group of entrepreneurs Slavomir Pavlíček and Marek Španěl.
A transaction whose value the parties have decided not to disclose must be formally approved by the Office for the Protection of Competition before it can be settled. The deal and sale of the Natland Group portfolio is the culmination of a transformation and development cycle that has seen the company rescued, rehabilitated and reorganised into a successful and prosperous business that will continue to be led by Zdeněk Rinth as CEO.
KARA Trutnov, a traditional Czech brand with a 70-year history, underwent a successful recovery process in 2021 as part of insolvency proceedings. “Our greatest strength, expertise and know-how is in the formal rescue and reorganisation process. At that time, in cooperation with management and Mr. Rinthe, we were able to successfully restore operations and re-establish business cooperation and subsequently remained in the company as a minority shareholder. Now is the time for Kara’s further development and we believe that the new partner will set a successful strategy for several years ahead and provide the company with constant stability for the future,” said Tomáš Raška, founder of the Natland investment group.
“After a thorough and relatively long preparation, on which we worked with the consulting firm Roklen, we managed to reach an agreement with the SPM Group, to which I am handing over KARA for its further development and stability. I believe that after the turbulence of the past period, we are entrusting KARA to a good and promising company,” added Zdeněk Rinth.
Last year KARA Trutnov achieved a turnover of CZK 325 million. Its portfolio includes coats, jackets, waistcoats, jackets and skirts, as well as accessories such as gloves, handbags and belts, and in recent years it has strengthened its position on the domestic market and abroad. “KARA is one of the best known and most popular Czech brands with a long tradition. It will beautifully complement the existing fashion brands Feratt, Pietro Filipi or Styx and retail specialists Freshlabels, Trenyrkarna.cz, Panskamoda.cz and Maluna.cz in our portfolio. In many cases, we target the same customer looking for style and proven Czech quality and complement the breadth of our offer for them. At the same time, we look forward to leveraging the many synergies between these brands within the SPM Group,” says Karin Lauková, director of the retail division of the SPM investment group.
KARA currently has 32 stores and production facilities throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It benefits not only from its historical sales experience and relationships with suppliers or sales centres, but also from a stable customer base and a range of services that are standard alongside its own products.
